Our programs
Advocacy
Strengthening the systems that protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence.
The challenge
Why this work matters
Kenya Good Neighbors’ advocacy is a set of interventions that firm up the formal and informal systems at community level, empowering communities and local partners to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and other forms of violence.
Advocacy is an integral part of our programming. It strengthens vulnerable communities by developing policies, systems, practices, and awareness, and it is a long-term process that builds skills and confidence, creates room for civil society groups in decision-making, and addresses social norms and attitudes.
What we do
Our focus on the ground

Community child-protection systems
We work with communities and local partners to strengthen the formal and informal structures that protect children.

Policy & civil society participation
We help develop policies, systems, and practices, and create opportunities for civil society groups to take part in decision-making.

Awareness campaigns
Through the Day of the African Child and public-health campaigns, we raise awareness and address social norms and attitudes.

From the field
The Day of the African Child
Every year on June 16, African governments, representatives of children, child- and youth-led organizations, NGOs, CSOs, international organizations, and other stakeholders gather to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the full realization of children’s rights in Africa.
In 2023, children from Korogocho CDP marked the day under the theme “The Rights of the Child in the Digital Environment.”
